About

Episcopal Identity + Chapel

We are an Episcopal school that welcomes people of all faiths.

Spiritual development is at the heart of everything we do at Campbell Hall.

We continue to honor the Episcopalian tradition as a place of open inquiry and spiritual formation. Campbell Hall's spiritual mission is to nurture the soul and character of all students entrusted to our care. Above all, Campbell Hall exists not merely to educate, but to demonstrate and proclaim the unique worth and beauty of all human beings as creations of a loving, empowering God.

We nurture the soul and character of all students.

We seek to instill morals and values that emphasize goodness, responsibility, love, respect, and a sense of connectedness to something greater than ourselves.

Chapel is the gathering place of the community.

It is where we find prayerful silence during our busy days, collectively cheer homecoming wins, and sing our Alma Mater with heartfelt enthusiasm. It is the place where we applaud our individual and collective victories, mourn our defeats, and nourish spiritual growth in our community. It is where we mark many of the traditions of each school year and ask for God’s continual help and guidance as we seek to become more decent, loving, and responsible human beings.

Weekly chapels, while grounded in Judeo-Christian prayers and readings, embrace and celebrate many religions of the world, encourage reflection, and above all, a commitment to bettering the world.

  • "WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER"

Excerpt from The Piper, Campbell Hall's High School Newspaper

We gather two times a week, every week, to decompress as a community. We stand together, we sit together, say the words of the Lord's Prayer together. We even sing hymn versions of the Beatles songs together! No matter where we are emotionally, no matter what's going on in the world, we meet and reconvene.

We all have two days a week where we are united as a community, but our sense of community doesn't end there.

ELEMENTARY CHAPEL

Elementary chapel is an important part of our daily life at Campbell Hall. The format of chapel is rooted in our rich Episcopal tradition, which allows students to experience the sacredness of life. We gather for prayers, song and the reading of Christian/Judeo Scriptures. It is through the reading of these sacred stories that we reinforce elementary values. Class presentations, musical offerings, the exploration of other faiths, the celebration of birthdays, guest speakers and service learning projects are also woven into the chapel experience.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPEL

The middle school chapel experience follows a two-year rotation of hearing the 25 stories from the Jewish Scriptures (Old Testament) and the New testament. These sacred stories allow us to talk about the moral, ethical and religious issues facing middle school students and the world at large. Students, faculty and the chaplains share in presentations of the sacred stories. Chapel is also a place where students are able to find time for reflection through prayer, moments of silence, and song. Presentations from student led musical and theatre groups also enrich the experience. Chaplain Hull's Middle School Chapel Blog is an additional resource where families can find discussion questions and learn more about each week's chapel themes.

HIGH SCHOOL CHAPEL

The high school chapel experience is a visible and daily reminder of Campbell Hall’s history and traditions. It is also one of the most discernible benchmarks of the flourishing and ever-growing outward expression of the mission of Campbell Hall. High school chapel always includes prayers from various faith, traditions, and prayers for the community. Scripture readings from the Bible (Old and New Testaments) and other sacred scriptures help to frame the chapel experience. Chapels are led by student chaplains and the Reverend Joseph Courtney.

NATHANSON-SWIGER CHAPEL AND SPIRITUAL CENTER

The Nathanson-Swiger Chapel and Spiritual Center provides a welcoming campus home, and regular opportunities, for the Campbell Hall family to develop helpful habits of spiritual practice and inquiry. We believe that good habits of prayer, mindfulness, and contemplative creativity are crucial to developing and sustaining a healthy and virtuous community. Completed in 2013, the Nathanson-Swiger Chapel and Spiritual Center encompasses a meditation room, a prayer wall, the main sanctuary chapel with an altar, an ark that features a Torah, and a meditation garden outside.
