On November 13, Associate Head of School Christopher Dennis joined a panel of thought leaders from across the country for an online presentation of The Power of Asking: How Innovative K-12 Leaders Use Questions to Unleash the Collective Wisdom All Around Them. 

Since 2016, high school math teacher Jeannie Walla has led an annual trip with Campbell Hall faculty and students to areas in and around Tijuana, Mexico, to construct homes for families in need. 

Mr. Javon’e, CH elementary science lab co-teacher and practicing artist, founded and launched the Campbell Hall Youth Visual Arts Residency (YAR) program this past summer. Still in its incubation phase within the CH IDEA Center, the program aims to provide young creatives from Title I schools a space to explore their artistic potential through access to studio facilities, high-quality materials, and mentorship. The program seeks to create a nurturing environment for the arts that parallels the robust support often found in youth athletics.

Mia L. ’27 has been selected to serve as an intern at The Valley Economic Alliance, a nonprofit organization that brings together public and private governments, businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations to promote economic vitality and prosperity in the San Fernando Valley. Mia will gain valuable skills and opportunities through this unique volunteer position.

Congratulations to Middle School English teacher Andrea Turner who was selected for The Black List Artist Development Fellowship for her script The Rules of Thirds. As part of the fellowship, Ms. Turner will workshop her project at Stowe’s Narrative Lab in Stowe, Vermont this summer, participate in a custom-designed mentoring program, and attend a writers’ retreat.

Jason Goldstein ’12, CH secondary music teacher (pictured center), is the co-founder and core band member of Family Company, an LA-based music collective that features artists and musicians who celebrate the traditions of soul, blues, and R&B music.

Maya C. ’25, whose mom Patricia Velasquez is the founder and president of Wayuu Taya, a nonprofit focused on improving the living conditions of Indigenous communities in Latin America while maintaining their traditions, cultures, and beliefs, and Henry F. ’27 gave a presentation at the organization in New York City. 

Sarah Huss, Director of Human Development & Parent Education and Co-Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice K-12, was quoted as part of an article published by the educational foundation Edutopia, about puberty starting earlier than ever in children and the increasing need for schools to address the topic in the lower elementary grades.
