  • Academics

Our elementary school schedule rotates through a five-day cycle, allowing students to explore a wide array of academic subjects and areas of interest and providing them with an exceptional educational foundation. Every day is filled with hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and immersive learning experiences. Students receive daily instruction in language arts, math, science, and social studies. In addition, students receive instruction in the following areas of focus under the guidance of specialist teachers:

    Lab Science
    Library
    Music
    Physical Education (daily)
    Spanish (begins in grade 3)
    Technology
    Visual Arts
  • Differentiated Learning

Through both the Reading and Writing Workshops, experienced faculty provide a balanced approach to literacy while meeting each student’s individual needs with a collaborative teaching approach and small group instruction. Math In Focus, the Singapore Math program used, emphasizes the mastery of math topics through problem solving, computational skills, mental math, word problems, and pictorial solutions. Skilled teachers scaffold instruction to address the needs of individual learners, leading to abstract computation.

The elementary science curriculum engages children in joyful discovery that instills an appreciation of our world, develops foundational skills, and promotes critical thinking in an imaginative, child-centered learning environment that supports children’s creativity and curiosity. Whether programming robots to dance, conducting a chemistry experiment, or designing digital art, K–6 students enjoy exciting, hands-on activities that bring learning to life in Campbell Hall’s elementary science and technology labs. The social studies curriculum explores history through the lens of equity and social justice, creates an intentional space that celebrates identity and cultural heritages, and helps students broaden their perspectives and make connections between historical and present-day events.
  • Academic Enrichment Opportunities

Students can demonstrate and improve their academic skills through challenges such as WordMasters, Continental Math League (CML), and Campbell Hall’s annual Science Fair. They can also engage in interest-driven activities such as chess and grade-level book clubs.
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice in the Curriculum

The elementary school uses the Social Justice Standards (Identity, Diversity, Justice, and Action) as a roadmap for anti-bias education. Through these standards, students learn to express pride, confidence, and healthy self-esteem while affirming the value and dignity of other people.
  • Spanish

The elementary school Spanish program provides culturally responsive pedagogy to further develop an appreciation for the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world. Direct Spanish language instruction happens once a week for grades 3 & 4, while students in grades 5 & 6 have Spanish language instruction twice a week.
  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics)

As a driver of innovation, STEAM is an integral part of a Campbell Hall education. Students focus on the underlying scientific process skills that empower them to articulate thoughts into questions, solve complex problems, and make the connection between scientific (“let’s find out”) and innovative (“what if”) thinking with the arts. Elementary school technology and science labs are dedicated spaces where students can engage in hands-on learning that is fundamental to developing critical thinking and is at the heart of joyful discovery. The elementary school art and dance studios offer students opportunities to explore and integrate practices across disciplines.
  • Social Emotional Learning

The elementary school program serves to meet the developmental needs of all students through strengthening students’ emotional intelligence skills with particular focus on mindfulness, self-awareness, emotional management, responsible decision-making, and healthy interpersonal relationships.
  • Chapel Program

Campbell Hall is a school of faith and reason rooted in the rich tradition of Episcopal education, which means we place spiritual development at the heart of all we do. We welcome people of all faiths, and our student body’s religious identification is reflective of many traditions. Chapel takes place Monday–Thursday during which we gather to hear stories from the world’s various religious faiths and traditions, sing songs, enjoy student performances, listen to guest speakers, celebrate birthdays and milestones, and so much more. Chapel is a warm and loving way to start the day and helps students deepen their understanding of different belief systems, strengthen values of respect for self and others, and develop authentic community connections. Parents are always welcome to attend!
  • Visual Arts

Every child is innately creative and our art educators provide studio-based opportunities to grow and hone their creative habits and skills. Our Visual Arts department follows a choice-based curriculum to guide students toward the use and care of various art materials, as well as the employment of art techniques and skills. In our dedicated Elementary Art Studio, students develop their own creative practice and use their art to engage with the broader community.
  • Music

The integrated and sequential music curriculum throughout the elementary school years combines music literacy, appreciation, cultural exploration, participation, and performance. All children learn the basics of rhythm, melody, harmony, note-reading, and composition. Children participate in a rich variety of musical experiences which include vocal performance and exploring instruments, including one-on-one sessions in our recording studio and singing in the Campbell Hall Elementary School Chorus.
  • Physical Education

Through daily physical activity, students strengthen the connection between mind and body. Physical education classes offer sequenced and developmentally appropriate games, fitness, sports, and health curriculum.

All students in grades 4–6 are welcome to participate in the following interscholastic competitive team sports and are placed on teams depending on their skill so as to be appropriately challenged.

    Co-ed Flag Football
    Basketball
    Soccer
    Co-ed Baseball
    Co-ed Volleyball
  • Class Presentations

Class presentations in grades K–6 underscore curricular themes and integrate performing arts, visual arts, and creative writing. Writing celebrations allow students to showcase their writing portfolio to their families and friends.
  • Pals Program

The Pals Program connects Kindergartners with 6th graders and 1st graders with 5th graders for fun activities scheduled throughout the school year. Younger students benefit from having strong, positive role models and older students develop a sense of responsibility and leadership.
  • Experiential Education

Beginning in 4th grade, experiential education trips are unforgettable experiences during which students explore nature, learn the value of cooperation and responsibility, and create lasting bonds with classmates and faculty.
  • Affinity Groups

Affinity groups provide additional welcoming spaces where students can connect with those who share similar identities or lived experiences. In addition, K–12 families are also welcome to join any of the family-run affinity groups where members can affirm their identities, hold joyful celebrations, and build community. There are currently seven such organizations with an open invitation to the community to create additional groups based on interest.
  • Student Council

Student Council provides opportunities for elected 4th–6th grade students to develop leadership and communication skills, personally invest themselves in elementary school programs, and serve their school and local community.
  • Before/After-School Activities

Before/After-School Activities offer students the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of programs to continue their development, including dance, athletics, instrumental music, and mindfulness. There are also optional fee-based after-school programs that include art, improv, engineering, robotics, and chess. Morning childcare is available free of charge and afternoon childcare is available after school for a fee. The school play yard is the “neighborhood” in our community, providing opportunities for outdoor free play with fellow K–6 students, recreational games and crafts, and a supervised homework center for students in grades 3–6 who are participating in the childcare program.
